100% Gamay. "Athanor" is one of Foillard’s top cuvées.
Jean Foillard is a family estate in the Beaujolais region of France. Popular among fans of natural wines, Foillard wines are also regularly praised by critics in their own right. The domaine is best known for a range of red wines from the Morgon appellation.
The wines have a reputation for combining lushness and fresh fruit aromas with depth, complexity and structure, which gives them not only great appeal when young but also considerable aging potential, while avoiding the "bubblegum" aromas that have become widely associated with Gamay in Beaujolais.
Foillard forged a name for his wines alongside other minimal-intervention producers in the area, including Guy Breton, Marcel Lapierre and Jean-Paul Thévenet (collectively, they are sometimes referred to as "the gang of four").
